How to Live the Soft Life

By: Raeanna Thompson

If you’re active on socials, you might've seen videos on your For You page emphasizing the desire to live a soft life. TikTok trends can become redundant quickly, but this one can actually be beneficial in your day to day. From the never-ending cycle of adult responsibilities and a 40-hour work week, you might need a reminder to take it easy here and there. While the aesthetic can be appealing for content purposes, the underlying basis can get lost.

Okay, What’s the Soft Life?

Don’t feel bad for not knowing exactly how to put the definition of the soft life into words. After all, keeping up with Gen Z and the trends is practically a full-time job. Let us break it down for you. Simply put, the soft life is the act of putting yourself first and intentionally choosing ease, comfort, and happiness in your daily living. Living softly allows the modern woman to unapologetically put herself first even when society tells you not to. Truth is, our lives and adulthood began to jumpstart at an awkward time. From a global pandemic to calamitous social events like the overturning of Roe v Wade, many of us have been managing the anxiety of what’s to come next. Who has the time to make room in their lives for anything that isn't good or doesn’t serve them? We sure as hell don’t. We wouldn’t be Ornami if we didn’t encourage the girls to finally embrace a complete toxin-free life!

Every day Gen Z’ers and millennials are denouncing the stress-filled careers, relationships, and lifestyles that we once saw our parents become accustomed to. Granted, everything is circumstantial, and some of our parents may not have had the option to make changes. But, we would be lying if we said we didn’t absolutely love seeing the younger generation take control of their own destiny with the groundwork that our ancestors laid for us. As women of color, it’s extremely common (and frustrating) for us to be expected to always remain strong, resilient, and overly-independent in any scenario. Our lives at home and lives in the workplace continuously call for us to keep a poker face for the sake of “keeping it together” or being professional. Sacrificing our emotional and mental health just doesn’t do it for us anymore, and we’re more than happy to find strength in softness.

The Divine Feminine

As spiritual beings, masculine and feminine energy is in all of us; neither are tied to a specific gender, but instead traits and qualities. When you dedicate your time to exploring the divine feminine, you’re giving yourself the space to be in tune with this energy, your body, and your emotions. The divine feminine is soft, yet still fierce enough to remind you of their power. But, how does this correlate to the soft life? Both of these inspire individuals to become more comfortable with receiving and setting firm boundaries with others. The soft life and divine femininity are both extremely beneficial to the health and abundance of your mind, body, and soul. Some traits of femininity can even include but definitely aren’t limited to:

  • Intuitiveness
  • Creativity
  • Compassion
  • Sensuality
  • Empathy

We’re all about sharing the wealth, and it’s only right to recommend the perfect reading when it comes to healing and learning more about embracing the feminine energy within you. How We Embody It

Getting into your soft girl era is easier than ever. First things first, do what you want, babe! Life begins to change once you decide to get rid of the BS and focus on becoming a better and badder you. We’re releasing anything that doesn’t serve us for real this time. Whether it’s a toxic friendship or a stagnating job, we’re trusting that more will come the moment we let it go. After making room in your life, begin to let your creativity flow! That project that’s been sitting for months – yes that one! Give yourself the grace and permission to truly begin to go for the things that you’ve always been dreaming of. Issa on Insecure said it best, “you have the plan, start the business!” Even if entrepreneurship isn’t your thing, immerse yourself in your favorite creative hobbies that will keep you charged. After all, painting or cooking can be the stimulation you need! Lastly, we can never forget a good self-care day. Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity! So, take that bubble bath, moisturize with your favorite Ornami body butter, binge that show, and activate that throat chakra to set those boundaries. Products won't bring you peace alone, but being intentional about your daily routine will impact your energy in the realest way.

It’s always a good day to put yourself first. We’ve spoken about priorities before, and nothing has changed this time around. Like we said, social media trends can become corny quick, but we’re not too mad at this one. If you take anything away from this blog post, just remember to love on yourself a little bit more and be open to letting things flow. Trust us, your overall happiness and mental health will thank you.

P.S. Have another freebie from us! A Spotify playlist for your soft girl era? We think yes.
