The flowers are blooming, the nights are getting longer, and there’s a subtle shift in the air among us. We're about to shake off the winter blues like nobody's business! After quite a few chilly days and plenty of cozy nights in, we’re ready to brighten things up a bit. March 19th marks the Spring Equinox – otherwise known as the first day of spring. Easing into Aries szn, the start of the astrological nu year is also approaching. The sign of Aries is the first sign on the zodiac wheel and is associated with action, assertion, direction, and motivation. This is just the energy we need for the perfect reset! This is a magical time of year and should be approached with proper intention. So, buckle up, because we're about to dive headfirst into the ultimate guide on how to prep for the Spring Equinox.

The History of Spring Equinox

The spring equinox, also known as the vernal equinox, has a rich history steeped in ancient traditions and cultural significance. ‘Equinox’ comes from two Latin words meaning equal and night. It marks the moment when the sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in nearly equal lengths of day and night. This celestial event has been celebrated by civilizations throughout history as a time of rebirth, renewal, and fertility. In many ancient cultures, the equinox was associated with the return of life to the earth after the cold, dark days of winter. Festivals and rituals were held to honor deities of agriculture and fertility, and to encourage bountiful crops and successful harvests.

Today, the spring equinox continues to hold spiritual and cultural significance for people around the world, symbolizing hope, growth, and the promise of new beginnings. It serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the eternal renewal of the natural world, inspiring us to embrace change, shed the old, and welcome the fresh energy of spring with open arms. Vernal Equinox Day is a national holiday in Japan where the people choose to celebrate by spending time outdoors viewing the freshly-bloomed cherry blossom trees. The date of Easter, one of the most important holidays in the Christian calendar, is also calculated using the March equinox (National Geographic). The people of India even celebrate the equinox with a festival known as Holi, a commemoration of the triumph of good over evil. If it’s one thing the world can agree on, it’s the joy that comes with this new season!

How To Prep

We’re always here to help the girls (and guys) stay ahead of the curve. While the trees begin to leaf out, here’s our checklist for taking care of your mind and home prior to the equinox ahead:

1. Declutter

A clean home is a happy home (or so we’ve heard)! From improved focus to regulated emotions, an organized space can help support one’s mental health (Newport Healthcare). Beginning your spring cleaning can be the toughest part, but you have to start somewhere! It’s out with the old, and in with the fabulous—because nothing says "hello, spring" like a clutter-free zone that screams, "I run this show!".

2. Revamp Your Wardrobe

We’re definitely ready to put those bulky sweaters and winter hues back into hiding for the next couple of month! It's time to ditch the layers and show just a bit more skin this time around. Hit up your favorite thrift stores, raid your bestie's closet, or splurge on that killer outfit you've been eyeing. Spring is all about fresh starts, baby, so dress like you mean it!

3. Plant Seeds (literally and figuratively)

Just as the spring equinox marks a time of balance and renewal, it's the perfect opportunity to set intentions for the season ahead. Whether it's conquering a new challenge or pursuing a passion project, make it your mission to manifest some serious magic this spring. Write down your intentions, visualize them coming to fruition, and let the energy of the season propel you forward. We also encourage you to try out your green thumb and get that home garden started! Because why not, right?

4. Detox

There’s no better time to clear away toxins and give your body a reset. By cleansing our bodies through mindful eating, hydration, and incorporating detoxifying practices such as yoga, meditation, and herbal teas, we can support our natural detoxification pathways and boost our overall health and vitality. Detoxifying during spring not only helps us shed the winter lethargy but also prepares us for the vibrant energy and opportunities that lie ahead in the new season. In need of a new detox tea? Perfect for your lymphatic system, we love and highly recommend the Serene Spleen Tea from Ancient Artery!

5. Embrace the Power of Nature

Spring is all about embracing the beauty of nature and harnessing its transformative energy. Spend time outdoors, bask in the warmth of the sun, and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the season. Whether it's a leisurely walk in the park, a picnic surrounded by blooming flowers, or a yoga session in the fresh air, connect with nature and let it nourish your soul.

6. SELF-CARE!

In typical Ornami fashion, of course we’re going to lecture you on the importance of self-care. As we transition into a new season, take the time to nurture your mind, body, and spirit through mindful self-care rituals. Whether it's meditation, journaling, or simply taking a few moments each day to breathe deeply and center yourself, prioritize activities that bring you joy and inner peace. Remember, self-care isn't selfish—it's essential!

As the spring equinox approaches, embrace the opportunity to renew, refresh, and revitalize your body and soul. With a little self-care and a whole lot of love, you'll step into the new season radiating light, positivity, and undeniable beauty. We hope you’re as excited for the new szn as we are! We’re never showing up empty-handed, so don’t forget to check out our new Spotify playlist ‘Spring Dreams’ to get you amped up for what’s to come.
